Rebecca Tulow, 36 was killed in a car accident Wednesday on her way home from wok in a Madelia factory. Rebecca, a Sudanese immigrant had six kids, aged 8 months to 16 years.

Mary Kok, 39, a passenger in the van was listed in fair condition Friday night at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Both women were refugees who escaped from war torn Sudan. They were carpooling home from work when their vehicle crashed head-on with a semi near Lake Crystal at about 12:45 a.m. Wednesday on Blue Earth Country Road 109.

 

 

Cultural Competence for the 21st Century : Preparing for a Global Market

Institutional & Community Facilitator Training

The YWCA and several community partners are bringing Lee Mun Wah, a nationally-acclaimed lecturer and Master Diversity and Communications Trainer to Mankato to train individuals to facilitate conversations with adults about race and diversity.

The training is titled Cultural Competence for the 21st Century: Preparing for a Global Market and consists of two days of training; the first December 3rd at MSU and the second to follow early next year.

Participants will gain skills to aid with conflict resolution and a better understanding of working cross culturally and with different cultural perspectives.

We are offering this training as part of our ongoing cross cultural competency building efforts. "The YWCA supports the work of the Greater Mankato Area Diversity Council in schools by bringing that message to adults in the community,” said Anne Ganey, YWCA Director.

“Lee Mun Wah is one of the most skilled individuals working in cross cultural community building in the country and we are fortunate to have this opportunity to work with him here, in the Mankato area.”

Lee Mun Wah is the Executive Director of StirFry Seminars & Consulting , which works with corporations, government agencies, educational institutions, and social agencies to facilitate diversity issues through healthy and authentic cross cultural relationships.

Participants desiring to be qualified as a Community Facilitator must attend both trainings in the two part series.

The training is open to individuals interested in growing their cross cultural skills or creating exchanges for multi-cultural learning, either within their organization or as a facilitator for community groups. Benefits of this training may include new skills, clients, understanding, and experiences.   

Partners in this project include the YWCA, Citizens Voice, Creative Ad Solutions Marketing Division, Greater Mankato Area United Way, Greater Mankato Diversity Council, Greater Mankato Growth,MSU-Mankato and South Central College.
